Large land-owning and service provider families began to choose the street to arrange their homes from the 13th century onwards, constructing giant homes which, over time, became metropolis palaces. The road often known as Carrer de Montcada follows the same route that once linked the port and the road resulting in Rome from the western facet of the primary walled metropolis of Barcelona (the present-day Plaça de l’Àngel). The lower part of the road was occupied by an intensive area of the necropolis that surrounded the early Santa Maria del Mar church from the top of the Roman era. The road referred to as Carrer de Montcada is right now crucial area of mediaeval civic architecture within the city.
