Website-building platform Squarespace is reducing its global workforce by approximately 19 per cent, eliminating around 300 positions as it restructures its operations and redefines how teams work.
According to the company, the majority of job cuts will impact product and engineering roles.
The company confirmed the workforce reduction, describing it as part of an effort to simplify its organisational structure, streamline priorities and improve the speed of decision-making as it prepares for its next phase of growth.
Squarespace CEO Anthony Casalena noted that the company’s current operating model must adapt to the evolving technology sector demands.
Restructuring efforts will focus on creating smaller teams, empowering employees with both leadership and execution roles, and minimizing organizational complexity.

The changes come as website-development platforms undergo a shift in how products are built and used, with generative AI tools increasingly allowing users to create website layouts, generate content and structure web pages through text prompts.
Squarespace has also been introducing generative AI features across its platform, and the growing use of AI in website creation forms part of the broader industry backdrop against which the restructuring is taking place.
The company has outlined a support package for employees affected by the decision, including a minimum of 16 weeks of base salary as severance, with additional payments based on their tenure.
Medical coverage will continue until May 2027, while employees will be allowed to retain their company-issued laptops, and eligible employees will also receive payouts linked to the 20 November, 2026 vesting of legacy-restricted stock unit cash awards.
The support measures further include resume assistance, career coaching, job placement resources and immigration-related assistance for employees on US visas.
